Where the figures come from
CO₂ avoided per kilometre: 1.65 kg, derived from the UNDP and GEF project brief (90.57 tonnes per bus per year at 150 km per day, grid factor 0.651 tCO₂ per MWh, part solar charging). UNEP quotes about 1.7 kg per km.
Diesel bus: 40 litres per 100 km (city routes, published measurements). Electric bus: 1.1 kWh per km.
Diesel: Rs 78.35 per litre (Petroleum Pricing Committee, 29 September 2026). Electricity: Rs 10.65 per kWh (CEB commercial tariff).
Passenger trips: 350 per bus per day at 100 km (project brief). One lap of the island: about 200 km by the coastal road. One tree: about 22 kg of CO₂ per year, an order of magnitude.
